Abstract
This study was carried out for the purpose of determination of suitable solution temperature in year-round production of Chinese leaf vegetables using hydroponic culture.
The experimented plants were Chinese flat cabbage (Brassica chinensis var. rosularis), Chinese green cabbage (Brassica campestris var. chinensis), and butter-head lettuce (Lacterca sativa var. capitata). The applied method was of deep flow culture (DFC) system, and the treatments of solution temperature were 15¡É, 20¡É, and 25¡É. This experiment was comparable to growth patterns by different nutrient solution temperatures through investigation of fresh weight, leaf area. dry weight. and the percentage of dry matter per 1008 fresh weight.
The response on varied solution temperatures among three experimented plants was little different. The results revealed that the treatment of 15¡É was inferior to 20¡É and 25¡É. In top fresh weight and leaf area, the treatment of 25¡É was better than that of 20¡É. However, treatment of 20¡É was superior to that of 25¡É in dry weight, the percentage of dry matter per 100g fresh weight, and root Fresh weight. Those results can be inferred that the increase of transpiration and respiration in treatment of 25¡É caused the surplus of water absorption and decrease of root fresh weight.
